US import prices rise 0.1% in September, export prices grow 0.3%
The import price index rose 0.1% in September from a month earlier,US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday.
Expectations were for a 0.2% increase in import prices, but the advance followed a 0.2% decline registered in August. The September rise was led by higher fuel prices. Import prices were still 1.1% lower in September compared to a year earlier.
US export prices rose 0.3 percent in September, after decreasing 0.8% in August. However, the index came in above the flat reading expected. Over the 12 months to September, export prices still fell 1.5%.
